Description

Below the viaduct is a corner of Veszprém nestled between the rocks. The city's zoo is hidden here. The beautiful Kittenberg Zoo is the third zoo in the country (apart from Budapest) to be built here. A sign at the entrance commemorates the park's namesake, Kálmán Kittenberg, a well-known African explorer.

Around 450 animals from over 120 different species live on an area of around 10 hectares (almost twice as much now due to expansion), including such rarities as the panther from Sri Lanka and the Sumatran tiger.

The zoo also offers interesting programmes, pony rides, a petting zoo and other events. The zoo has also been significantly expanded in recent years. Among other things, the new chimpanzee world was opened. Right next door is the huge Savanna enclosure for zebras and rhinos, followed by the house for giraffes and elephants. We can watch cute penguins and seals in the zoo's water pools.

Extinct animals can also be found at Veszprém Zoo. The almost life-size specimens from the Jurassic period can be admired in their own dinosaur park.

Whether young or old, a visit to the zoo in Veszprém is always a successful programme! Afterwards, you can take a nice walk along Gulya Hill or along the Séd stream through the Betekints Valley.
